David Froman Dead at Age 71

David Froman, a talented actor and college drama instructor in Oklahoma, passed away this week. He was 71. According to a Facebook page dedicated to him, he died Monday of cancer.

After a very courageous battle with cancer, our friend David passed from this life February 8, 2010. To us, this wonderful man was was a true friend, a mentor, a teacher, a confidant, a husband, a father. But with everything that he was to each of us, he was genuinely David. Those who knew him personally have surely witnessed his unique ability to light up a room with his confident energy and his deep, harmonic voice. I have known David and his wonderful family for several years now and they have become as my own family for so many reasons. I have also had the privilege of acting with David on stage on several occasions and worked with him in various productions. What an awesome experience. David, you unknowingly taught me so much and for that I will be eternally grateful.

Froman played Gunther Wagner and his twin Bruno on EDGE OF NIGHT during the show's final years. Bruno appeared first in 1980 and had assumed Gunther's identity and was murdered a year later. The real Gunther was featured until the end of the show and was Sky Whitney's chauffeur. He shared a two year flirtation with Mitzi Martin and eventually kissed her for the first time in the show's final telecast. You can watch some classic clips below of Bruno (passing himself off as Gunther) with Mark Arnold.

  1. How sad. I loved the dynamic between Gunther, the Whitneys and little Jamie. Froman had that "gentle giant" quality that make him so likable.
