Carla Princi, a television publicity executive for nearly three decades and sister of soap actress Elaine Princi, died Jan. 18 at her home in Toluca Woods, Calif., following a long battle with small cell lung cancer. She was 54.
After graduating in 1977 from USC and serving as an assistant at ABC, Princi joined Columbia Pictures Television in 1982. She was soon promoted to publicist and worked on the long-running daytime soaps THE YOUNG AND THE RESTLESS and DAYS OF OUR LIVES and series including T.J. HOOKER.
Princi continued at Warner Bros. Television from 1988-92, overseeing such series as MURPHY BROWN (for which she garnered the Maxwell Weinberg Showmanship Award).
After a stint at Fox, where she oversaw national print, television and radio consumer publicity campaigns for the network, she worked at CBS from 1993-95 for such series as DAVE'S WORLD, MURDER, SHE WROTE and DR. QUINN, MEDICINE WOMAN.
Princi then spent five years at Touchstone, overseeing PR campaigns on series like SPORTS NIGHT and several Wonderful World of Disney movies.
She joined Lifetime in 2000, charged with establishing the network's Los Angeles publicity department, and was named senior vp publicity in 2001.
She left the industry in 2006 to become a teacher.
Princi is survived by her daughters Nicole and Samantha; sisters Elaine Princi (ex-Dorian, ONE LIFE TO LIVE; ex-Miranda, AS THE WORLD TURNS; ex-Linda, DAYS OF OUR LIVES) and Valerie Ofstad; nephews Christopher and Craig Ofstad; and great nephews Trenton and Nathyn Ofstad.
Services will be held at 12:15 p.m. on Saturday, at St. Charles Catholic Church in North Hollywood. Donations may be made to the Lung Cancer Alliance.
