News Round-up: Roché, FNL, Reeves to GH, Rylan

Hulu to begin charging in 2010
News Corp. executive Chase Carey says that Hulu "needs to evolve to have a meaningful subscription model as part of its business."

Sebastian Roché joins FRINGE
Sebastian Roché (Jerry, GH) has been added to the cast of Fox's FRINGE as a recurring, playing a new villain on the sci-fi series. Details of Roché's story line are being kept under wraps, but his character is a soldier from another dimension who is not quite human/not quite machine, trying to gather information for opening a stable door to the other side. He replaces Thomas Kretschmann, who was originally cast as the super-spy and appeared in the Oct. 8 episode but couldn't recur because of a scheduling conflict.

Technicolor's 3D-on-film solution is finding some traction in the marketplace
he lab and post-production giant has announced support for Technicolor 3D from DreamWorks Animation, Lionsgate, Paramount, Overture, Universal Studios, Warner Bros., and the Weinstein Co., all of which aim to release pics in the format. The system aims to address the shortage of digital 3D screens by using conventional celluloid film prints capable of 3D imaging.

Scott Reeves Joins GENERAL HOSPITAL
Scott Reeves is joining GENERAL HOSPITAL as the new Steven Lars Webber. The character will arrive in December as the hospital’s new chief of staff and be thrown into a storyline involving his half-sister Liz (Rebecca Herbst) and the two men in her life, Lucky (Jonathan Jackson) and Nikolas (Tyler Christopher). The gig is considered recurring at the moment.

Rylan and Money welcome son
The former GL star (ex-Lizzie), who recently relocated to Los Angeles, is now a proud momma. A GL rep confirms that Rylan and her fiancée Don Money (ex-Brian, ROCKLAND COUNTY/SCRIPTS & SCRUPLES) welcomed the birth of their son, Jackson Robert Money, who weighed in at 8 pounds, 12 ounces.

Soap stars on NEWLYWED GAME
Tonight Greg Vaughan (Lucky, GH) and wifeTouriya Haoud will compete on the GSN game show. On Nov. 3, Thad Luckinbill and Amelia Heinle (J.T. and Victoria, Y&R) will appear.

Google, Verizon Find Common Ground on Net Neutrality
On the eve of the FCC's vote Thursday to propose codified network neutrality rules, Verizon and Google got together Wednesday night both for a dual blog posting on a number of network neutrality issues. Google Chairman Eric Schmidt and Verizon CEO Lowell McAdam conceded that the two seemed "unlikely bedfellows" on the issue, and that they do disagree strongly on certain aspects of network neutrality, but they also said that there was a lot they agreed on, including that "it's essential that the Internet remains an unrestricted and open platform -- where people can access any content (so long as it's legal), as well as the services and applications of their choice."

Simpson and Egglesfield out in MELROSE PLACE shake-up
Two months into its run, The CW’s ratings-challenged MELROSE PLACE reboot is about to undergo a major renovation. For starters, Ashlee Simpson-Wentz and Colin Egglesfield have been let go (they’ll last air in January), and the “Who Killed Sydney?” mystery is being wrapped up in December. Then, in addition to Heather Locklear’s Amanda, several new characters will be introduced and the show will take on a lighter, more fun vibe.
