News Round-up: Locklear, Forbes March, Partridge, Whittle

VIDEO First Look: Heather Locklear on MELROSE PLACE
Here's a sneak peak of Heather Locklear’s first scene back as Amanda on November 17.

INTERVIEW: ATWT's Forbes March (Mason)
"I finished up my stint a couple of days before I booked my Degrassi TV-movie gig. My last airdate is sometime during November Sweeps. It was a case of a new writer [David Kreizman] coming in and the old one [Jean Passanante] going out. They literally put the Mason/Noah/Luke story into neutral. Yeah, it was frustrating but I was new there so I wasn’t aware of what was happening behind the scenes. I avoided the politics on the show because it was only a short-term role. By the time the new writer was in place, my time in Oakdale expired. I had fun, though. It wasn’t what I had hoped for, but the last few weeks were a blast. I like the way they wrote out Mason. He doesn’t die so he can always come back."

Kids watch more than a day of TV each week
The amount of television usage by children reached an eight-year high, with kids ages 2 to 5 watching the screen for more than 32 hours a week on average and those ages 6 to 11 watching more than 28 hours. The analysis, based on the fourth quarter of 2008, measured children's consumption of live and recorded TV, as well as VCR and game console usage.

Creating Economic Opportunities for Women (C.E.O Women), a non-profit organization developing economic opportunities for immigrant and refugee women, today announced the launch of its new multimedia series to expand the reach of its proven educational entrepreneurship program. The Grand Cafe educational soap opera provides low-income immigrant and refugee women with access to English and business training, in order to help them attain their goals of becoming economically self-sufficient individuals and small business owners. C.E.O. Women will implement the educational soap opera in its existing Oakland-based program, as well as in its new San Jose program.

HOLLYOAKS the Musical?
Actor Ricky Whittle has proposed the idea of a HOLLYOAKS musical to the producers of the Channel 4 soap. It's thought that if the idea goes any further, it could be used to mark the soap's 15th anniversary at the end of next year.

INTERVIEW: EASTENDERS' John Partridge (Christian)
Viewers have seen Partridge's alter ego Christian Clarke embarking on a gay love affair with Syed (Marc Elliott) in recent months. The romance has brought inner turmoil for Syed as he struggles to reconcile his sexuality with his beliefs as a practising Muslim. Speaking to DS, Partridge explained: "At this point in time I do think they fall in love with each other completely. I think Syed's lived so long compartmentalising his feelings and he's quite happy doing that, but I think we've recently started to see that unravel with the massive confession that Syed made to the imam."

  1. So is ATWT putting Luke & Noah on hold, or are they just triangle-free?
Something about this just doesn't bode well for the future of gays on CBS daytime.

  2. i think when he refers to the story as being in neutral he is referring to what we're seeing right now(or not seeing actually), but the story should pick up during sweeps. thats too bad though there was a lot of potential there... hmmm

  3. Well, Forbes March just confirmed publicly what all Nuke viewers already knew.

Clearly, Nuke will never evolve past where they are so long as PGP/TeleNext continue to bow to any and all pressure exerted upon them by the almighty AFA, and fan loyalty and character development be damned.

And it's not just ATWT. Y&R has failed spectacularly in delivering any of its promises for gay characters in storylines that are on equal footing with its straight characters. And that B&B has no gay characters? That has to be the biggest joke in the industry.

  4. B&B re-unearthed JM J Bullock's Sergei today. Isn't that the representation you wand jsg03jd

The examples you give, though, as Mo indicated, raise the question of whether this is P&G or CBS. Otalia didn't get the final kiss. Nuke has been on stall. The gays literally evaporated from Y&R (after promises of "multiple gay storylines"). And B&B offers "Sergei".

    Okay.

My guess is that -- with all the weeping and moaning about low advertising rates -- the REAL culprit is CBS...which is not willing to bear controversy right now if it costs a single advertiser dollar (or viewer for those ads).

Roger--with all your connections AND investigative bent...maybe you could find out more about at which level this is happening.

I guess OLTL is the sole flourishing soap in this regard for now.

  5. Heather Locklear looks great. Nice to see The CW is sticking behing "Melrose Place" even tho in it's last outing it earned a ridiculous 0.6 household rating. I wish ABC would be that committed to "Eastwick" - show that gets better every week but can't seem to find an audience.
