Former DAYS OF OUR LIVES star Deidre Hall (ex-Marlena) is one of Operation Smile's Celebrity Ambassadors. Hall participated in an Operation Smile medical mission in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, this summer along with her 16-year-old son, David Sohmer.
On Friday night, Hall participated in Operation Smile's 8th Annual Smile Gala at the Beverly Hilton Hotel. Former soap stars Roselyn Sanchez and Eric Winter were among the honorees being presented with the Universal Smile Award.
Founded in 1982, Operation Smile, headquartered in Norfolk, Virginia, is a worldwide children's medical charity whose network of global volunteers are dedicated to helping improve the health and lives of children and young adults. Operation Smile volunteers have treated more than 135,000 children born with cleft lips, cleft palates and other facial deformities and currently work in 51 countries. In addition to contributing free medical treatments, Operation Smile trains local medical professionals in its partner countries and leaves behind crucial equipment for long-term self-sufficiency.
