Magazine Audiences Increase 8%, Weekly/Digest Fall

Despite the perception that newsstand sales are on the decline, over the last decade the total audience for leading consumer magazines has increased by about 8%, according to a MediaPost analysis of 81 top titles.

The news isn't so good for Soap Opera Digest and Soap Opera Weekly though in the study from the Spring of 2000 to the Spring of 2009. Thirty-eight titles were analyzed in the women's interest category including Weekly and Digest. Only eight of the 38 titles saw their female audience decrease over this period with Soap Opera Digest (-27%) and Soap Opera Weekly (-21%) falling the most.
