News Round-up: Kurth, Melvin, Whittle, Fox

INTERVIEW: DAYS' Wally Kurth (Justin)
"It's different. I like the schedule, to be quite honest. I know it's kind of radical. We really cook, but I love the fact that Gary's on the floor when we tape and everybody has to step up and be prepared. It's just nice. Everyone's on the ball and we plow through it and I think it actually helps. It gives you an improv feel and that's good energy. I think it helps the performances."

INTERVIEW: Former DAYS star Rachel Melvin (ex-Chelsea)
On the difference between DAYS and her new show, HEROES: "Well, they’re similar in the sense that you’re not always dealing with real life situations that you can draw from your own experience. They’re different in the sense where the soap world is very rushed and hurried. It was nice to have the freedom to play with different choices through multiple takes, and have directors take the time to really explore the character with you without much pressure of 'getting it done on time.'"

Source Interlink's "good bankruptcy"
From Source's Jp magazine website: "Heard rumors in the news that our parent company Source Interlink Media went bankrupt and all the magazines, including Jp, will be killed off? We're alive, well, and kickin' and aren't going anywhere. It was one of those good bankruptcies."

HOLLYOAKS star unhappy over show's image
Ricky Whittle has claimed that the soap's cast and crew are underestimated by television critics. The 27-year-old actor, who plays Calvin Valentine, complained that the time and effort required to produce the show often goes unnoticed.

Speaking to Metro, Whittle said: "There's an idea that we're the party soap, the happy soap, the soap that has loads of fun, but people don't realise how hard we work. At the minute, especially with the late night stuff, we're doing 12-hour days, sometimes six or seven days a week."

Hardy joins HOLLYOAKS as senior publicist
Lime Pictures has appointed Rachel Hardy as senior publicist for the TV drama HOLLYOAKS. Prior to joining Lime, Hardy was based in London where she latterly worked for the international fragrance and cosmetic giant company Coty Inc.

Samantha Fox Heading For EASTENDERS?
Former page three girl Samantha Fox said today she would give in and appear on EASTENDERS after 26 years of being pursued by the show.

"I've been asked to go on EastEnders since I was 17," she told OK! managazine. "First I was asked to be Sharon's sister, then I was asked to be Peggy's daughter, then I was going to be Nick Cotton's gangster moll wife. I quite fancied that last one. I'll definitely do it one day when the time's right."

  1. I wonder if the networks have ever thought about airing either British or Australian soaps.
