News Round-up: Primetime Emmys, Paul Leyden, Bravo

CBS Reschedules Primetime Emmy Awards Telecast
CBS will broadcast the 61st Primetime Emmy Awards live Sunday, Sept. 13 from 8-11 p.m. ET, a week earlier than previously announced, due to an NFL doubleheader, which could have delayed the start of primetime.

Lana M. Nieves on Chris Engen on Otalia
On Chris Engen's sudden departure from Y&R: "Am I crazy, or is making believe that one is something he or she is not is the very nature of acting? For an actor - any actor- to refuse to act on the basis of a character not being like him, or not doing the right thing is unprofessional, plain and simple."

On Otalia: "While Chris Engen is busy nailing shut the coffin on his career in daytime television, Crystal Chappell and Jessica Leccia are acting their asses off."

As The World Burns
Sara Bibel writes: "I’d like to stage an intervention for a soap opera. AS THE WORLD TURNS is widely rumored to be slated for cancellation in 2010. But that doesn’t mean it needs to lay down and die. Just a few years ago ATWT was daytime’s prestige show, dominating the Emmys if not the ratings. In the 1960s, it was America’s most popular soap, drawing ratings that today would rank it above most primetime shows. Now, it barely seems like a soap at all."

ATWT: Don't Tell Me, Show Me
Lynn Liccard writes: "Last week AS THE WORLD TURNS illustrated perfectly soap opera as the tattered macramé wall hanging I discussed last week. The two-word summery of the week: perfunctory exposition."

INTERVIEW: Former ATWT star Paul Leyden (ex-Simon)
On his role as another Simon in Lifetime's Maneater: "Simon is a bit of a playboy. But he's a playboy with a heart of gold. He's very much in love with Clarissa (Sarah Chalke), but I don't think he's able to express his emotions very well, like most Australian men."

Bravo revamps brand
Bravo Media is changing its look and its tagline. The cable network and its digital platforms are undergoing a pop art-inspired redesign, and Bravo's "Watch What Happens" tagline is being replaced with a new one, "By Bravo." The network's new look will be introduced June 23 with the launch of the new docu-series NYC PREP.

CBS Wins Ad Revenue With Reliable Shows
CBS' reliance on steady shows has helped the network win more ad dollars than its rivals, Advertising Age reports. The network drew about $4.03 billion in ad dollars from Sept. 1, 2008 through May 17, 2009, more than ABC's $3.67 billion or NBC's $3.02 billion, the trade paper says, citing figures from TNS Media Intelligence.

Tristan Rogers on the Luke/Holly/Ethan storyline
"It’s no great secret that TPTB don’t consult me much these days when it comes to story. However, it was said to me that in the beginning this WAS Robert’s child with Holly, and that was how it would be presented. If that had happened, there would be 'no harm no foul'. But, of course, it didn’t and from here it will be interesting to see it all play out. The vagueness of the story has somewhat amused me. There are no real specifics here. Holly says one thing then another. Luke wants to be the father but he’s rather challenged when it comes to parenting skills. I mean, it’s a hard sell when it comes to being an engaging story."
