New Harris Poll TV Survey: CSI #1 Show

The Harris Poll has conducted a new study about television with 2,355 U.S. adults surveyed online between March 9 and 16, 2009 by Harris Interactive.

Here are some of the results:

"What are your two or three favorite television shows of all time?”
#1 CSI (overall #1, #1 with women, #1 Gen X 33-44, #1 Matures 64+)
#2 M*A*S*H (#1 with men, #1 Baby Boomers 45-63)
#3 HOUSE (#1 with Echo Boomers 18-32)
#15 GREY'S ANATOMY

"What are your two or three favorite television shows of all time?” (grouped by genre)
#1 Sitcoms 62%
#2 Drama 39%
#3 Crime/Mystery 32#
#12 (tie) Soaps 3%

  1. If you look at the actual link (thanks), soaps are truly at the bottom of the list, ranked with cartoons -- and just ahead of DIY shows.

  2. Mark, I'd love to see the same survey from decades past. Like when soaps were much more popular, how many people named a soap as one of their 2 or 3 favorite programs?

  3. I'd love to see the same survey from 1981, when Luke and Laura were on all the covers. That would have been the highest.

    Since there has always been a stigma against soaps, I wonder if it always got rated lower -- because people often try to deny stigmatized things. "Soap watching in the closet", as it were.

    Do you think Harris did this exact same poll before? Now I'm trying to see how I could get my hands on it....
