Initial Daytime Emmy Pre-Nom Reaction

In reviewing the list of the pre-nominated actors for the upcoming Daytime Emmy Awards, there are several surprises. Some are quite pleasant, while others are befuddling.

Some actors do not submit their names every year which is a shame because the "best" work should be honored. My commentary is based on who I believe deserved to be recognized.

Pleasant Surprises
Elizabeth Hubbard was robbed a few years ago when she wasn't even pre-nommed for her original cancer storyline. This year Lucinda was given a gay husband and her cancer returned. Thank you ATWT for recognizing this woman who deserves another Emmy on her mantle.

It's not necessarily surprising but it's wonderful to see Debbi Morgan and Darnell Williams nominated again for their signature roles of Angie and Jesse Hubbard. They both won playing these characters in the 80s.

Gina Tognoni in the lead actress category is much deserved. She has won the supporting actress award two of the past three years.

Melissa Claire Egan has been outstanding as crazy Annie on AMC and deserves a nomination.

Van Hansis got a year older and was forced to move into the supporting category this glad. Glad to see his show recognized him.

Hooray for Alley Mills!

Some of my favorite younger actors were pre-nommed including Billy Magnussen, Daniel Kennedy, Rachel Melvin and Blake Berris.

The Shockers
Ronn Moss as outstanding lead actor? He is a lead actor for sure, but outstanding?

Tamara Braun was nominated as Ava on DAYS. She's always good but I'm surprised they chose her in the supporting category.

Amelia Heinle's Y&R pre-nom was unexpected. What happened to Sharon Case?

Obviously being on a show the entire year wasn't a requirement as several actors on from one month to a few months were pre-nommed including Jeff Branson (for GL), Vincent Irrizary (for AMC) and Grayson McCouch (for ATWT).

I understand that games are played with the categories but Alicia Minshew and Marcy Rylan were not really "supporting" actresses last year.

The Snubs
Each show only had two pre-noms in each category but where was my favorite cover boy, Eric Braden?

As previously mentioned, Sharon Case hasn't received any Emmy love in recent years.

Thirty year soap legend Melody Thomas Scott is probably going to have to wait to receive a lifetime achievement award someday.

Where is Justin Deas? Yes, his amazing scenes during Coop's death were this year and not last, but he should be in the supporting actor category every year for GL. Did he submit his name?

Jon Hensley was outstanding last year and Grayson McCouch was mostly off the show (with Dusty presumed dead) so why is McCouch nominated and not Hensley?

Robin Strasser? Kimberly McCullough and Jason Thompson?

With such a long list of names, why are some of the very best of daytime last year, and every year, missing?

  1. Thanks for posting Roger, The Daytime Emmy's continue to be a joke as per usual with this pre-nom list.

IA with you that some of them are pleasant to see but most surprising mainly the Younger Actress category.

    Brianne Moncrief?
    Molly Burnett?

    Really?

  2. That's exactly how I feel, Roger.
As for Tamara, I knew she was going to be nominated. I just knew it! If she gets a nomination, watch her say goodbye to AMC and hello to DOOL. Even though I no longer watches DOOL, I'm happy for Brunett, She can act and she deserves it. I'm SHOCKED that Arianne wasn't submitted as lead actress. How come Kim Zimmer wasn't nominated for lead actress? The Emmys continues, and continues to be nothing but a complete joke.

Btw, we might see the Emmys on TV Land. lol

  3. Kimberly McCullough and Jason Thompson were most definitely ROBBED! WTH were these people thinking? I know the HIV pregnancy storyline wasn't everything it could have been thanks to BOB GUZA but they still pulled off AMAZING performances. Only THIS SHOW would have an HIV pregnancy storyline and ZERO nominations for the people involved in it. It's almost laughable. Almost.

  4. Deserves what exactly? She has no range except being a bitchy character - you show me sme meat eating scenes where she stood out and did something other than bitch and gripe at Stephanie. The character is one dimesional and this is as much a joke as it was when Kristen Renton was nominated - granted Burnett has a lot more scenes than KR during her first year but let's be real.

  5. TV Land? Well, they're airing fewer old shows all the time so why not? Put the Daytime Emmys after a High School Reunion marathon. LOL
